Should you train hard? Yes. Can you train hard? Maybe not. Grappling demands a lot from its practitioners physically, especially in the beginning. However, everyone wants to win, so they go extra hard all the time trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Then, their body wears down and it becomes a chore, or the training becomes too inconsistent to be effective. Light consistent training will always beat hard inconsistent training, and obviously the goal is reasonably consistent hard training. If I can train 1 hour a day 5 days a week, and someone else trains 2 days a week for 2 hours, every week I am 1 hour ahead. Over the course of a year, I have trained 52 extra hours. Ask yourself three questions when you are determining whether your output is matching your input. Am I being effective with what I am doing? Am I being efficient with the time I have? Am I being consistent toward the goal I seek to achieve? Slow and steady wins the race sometimes, so set a pace for success.
