​One of the best skills you can have in combat is the ability to dictate the location of the confrontation. This is true in the macro scale or war and true in the micro of combat sports. It is why wrestlers have been very successful in MMA. It is also something that can be critical to success in Jiu Jitsu. All points scoring is somehow related to achieving dominant position. If you do not have the ability to sweep, takedown, or reverse your opposition, you are at a disadvantage. The threat of reversal also opens submission opportunities. The more multilayered your game is, the less predictable you become and the more opportunities you will have. Become the person that dictates the playing field.
