You will be naturally inclined to certain positions and movements in grappling, however it does not benefit you to become predictable. If I know that you are only successful with certain moves from specific setups then what you do is preventable. As much as we should fear the person who does one technique 1000 times, if that one technique is all they have, strategy to thwart them becomes simple. This is why we build systems around our strengths. If I know that I want to take the back from closed guard, I will back that up with a tilt sweep and various arm attacks at minimum. That will continue to branch as possibilities arise, and it will funnel back to the original goal, taking the back. The goal of Jiu Jitsu is not to force an outcome, but to find an outcome. Plan A may funnel 25 times to plan z and each of those 26 plans may funnel infinitely until the loop is closed. Do not have a one track mind when it comes to your grappling, do not be so attached to a plan that you miss an opportunity. Build systems so that you don’t have to think when your plan hits a snag.
