This is how I feel and I have no empirical data to support it past my own experience. If teaching the steps to moves actually worked, it should be impossible to do hundreds of repetitions and forget the move. There’s no reason why someone could drill a move over and over again, but still not have the knowledge in their brain to execute it or mix it up with other moves when the time comes. It seems much simpler to allow people to accomplish the task and then clean up or guide them towards a trajectory they are already on. Information overload is very real and that seems to be a downside of traditional teaching methods. As difficult as it is to find solutions, it seems less complicated in the long term. We teach people to fish, not hand them fish without asking if they know how to cook.
