It may not be true, but I feel like the standard I hold for promotions is very high. Generally, the standard I hold for people seems very high and the standard I hold for myself is very high. It is both good and bad, I beat myself up more than anyone ever knows when I mess something up. I constantly have doubt and feel like a failure for the smallest of things, but it’s also what has allowed me to accomplish things that people didn’t think I would. The only reason I’m not terrible at Jiu Jitsu is because I thought about my mistakes, and I made improvements on those things. The first part of the standard is, are you putting in effort to improve? The next part of the standard is do you have the knowledge base of the level you seek. The final part of the standard is can you execute your knowledge at the level you seek. If you aren’t getting promoted then one or all three of these things isn’t being met, and I’m not shy about communicating the things you need to work on, so you probably already know what they are. If you aren’t sure, come to me with the things you think you need to work on to level up and I’ll let you know if you’re right.
