I saw a thing attributed to Garry Tonon, which said that people coming into Jiu Jitsu are just looking for something to do, and that they have lost sight of the actual purpose of what we do. He said they are soft. Yeah, people are soft, and they always have been in this country. If they weren’t karate and tae kwon do wouldn’t look the way they do. I guess I shouldn’t say they’ve always been soft, but it’s not a new thing. I’m soft, I don’t regularly expose myself to getting punched in the face, but I have. Unfortunately, our community has a lot of disagreements right now, and if we want to keep the actual purpose of Jiu Jitsu alive, not the self-serving purpose, Jiu Jitsu will only be for those who put in the work.
