There are only a few things that I ask you to accomplish, and they are usually different versions of the same thing, don’t make it more difficult than it has to be.
If you’re on the bottom, Off balance- disturb the stability of the person on top Sweep- from a guarded position go from bottom to top Submit- this should be fairly clear Legs in front- from a non-dominant position get both of your legs below the knee in front of your opposition Reverse- from a non-dominant position get to a top position Disengage- exit entirely Achieve a position or circumstance- get to the outcome outlined in the game description If I set you in a specific position try to use that position If the goal is to get to a specific position you should be continuously working towards that end From top Beat hips and knees- in a top guard situation nullify the legs and move your body above opposition’s hip line without solidifying the pass Pass- in a top guard situation move past opposition’s legs and establish chest to chest or chest to back contact varietals Stay on top- do not get swept, reversed, or allow the opposing player to disengage Submit- do the thing Achieve a position or circumstance- achieve the outcome expressed in the game description. If you do not understand what you need to do ask for clarification, many times the goal is multi-layered, so not only do you need to stay on top, but you also need to work for another outcome, it is your responsibility to continuously work towards the intention of the situation. Pay attention to the verbal description, the demonstration, and the written explanation of what you need to do. Clarify the things you feel like you are missing at the outset of each game and ask questions at the conclusion. The pieces for you to be successful are there for you to use, so use them. Physically and mentally grappling is hard, do not make it harder by over complicating what you need to do. Simplify the task, accomplish the task.
