In no way am I saying that I’m immune to being prideful in grappling, but as I age it’s becoming more detrimental. Sometimes I’ve probably not conceded submissions when I should have, but the pride I’m dealing with now is training when I know my body can’t handle it. If you’re young, the detrimental pride is probably more about not tapping when you should. Neither is good, and not tapping probably leads more to the kind of humility I must face now, if you make it that far. Everyone will submit me eventually, and since that’s true, if you are in a compromised position, you should also tap. There’s a reason that pride is not looked upon kindly in history, do not let it keep you out of training.
