I saw a post the other day where this guy who said he was almost a blue belt (white belt) implied that he was trying to decide whether to quit Jiu Jitsu or get divorced… that’s stupid. It’s not your career, if you have a wife and kids, leaving them because you want to do Jiu Jitsu is insane, but also you probably shouldn’t have a wife and kids. I got lucky Jiu Jitsu was built into my life long before I contemplated a normal adult existence, but no one is blowing up their family for pickup basketball and they shouldn’t be doing it for grappling either. Getting good at this is a commitment, we were talking the other day that it’s more like high school sports than a hobby. You have to practice all the time, but you’re probably not going pro. If grappling makes you want to neglect your life, as someone with experience, there are larger issues to deal with.
