Novelty

​I think you can get really far with novel Jiu Jitsu. At lower levels or against people of a lower skill level, do things out of the ordinary often allows you to get things by pure confusion. I have a student who is bas pure weird grappling. He doesn’t really do much in a textbook way and sometimes he just does things that couldn’t work for anyone else. He is successful though, both in the room and in competition. Novelty and creativity are great, the next stage then becomes how do you adhere those traits successfully to the rules of the game you are playing.
