We do a contact sport, and as such the likelihood of getting injured is high. Sometimes, there is no avoiding injuries, but often they are preventable. The number of people you run into in your jiu jitsu journey that are really and truly working at an elite level is very few and therefore the need to make risky decisions like you are going for a world championship is low. The need to hold out on tapping to joint locks is low. If your livelihood depends on something other than jiu jitsu, you have to make smart decisions and sometimes that means tapping or letting go of things for the safety of all involved. If you are regularly getting injured, and that is not a state you want to be in you must adjust how you train. I'm not saying don't defend submissions or be stingy but be safe and be smart. When people say don't use strength in grappling it's not actually about the strength, it's about the rigidity. Being rigid and tight is a path to injury. Make smart decisions and stay safe on the mat.
