This is a working theory and I welcome you to try it out for yourself and see if it also holds true. Recently I’ve been playing with how controlling someone’s hands and arms halts forward advancement. The framework of this has always existed, but even nearly 23 years in, I still have epiphanies about things I probably should’ve known all along. Upper body control is one of the keys to gaining offensive top positions and I can deny that ability if I control your hands and arms. If my distance management of feet, knees and hips is beat, then my last line of defense is my hands and arms. I want to use all of the tools at my disposal, obviously I don’t want to get beat to my hands and arms, but I also don’t want to limit the tools I have. This scratches the surface of what’s going on in my brain, feel free to reach out if you’d like to help me flesh this out.
