I think grappling is a great way to prepare yourself to endure life. It is a microcosm of stress, strain, victory and defeat. Starting out is incredibly hard, and it never really gets better, but you get better. The challenges strengthen you; you get smarter, more efficient, and through the work you get results, build confidence, and gain so many skills. The resiliency that grappling teaches you is the most valuable skill it can give; you know that there is a counter to a counter and at any time you can completely start over fresh. If you have grappled, almost anything else is possible.
