The longer you grapple the more you realize getting hurt is probably your fault. That’s not what people want to hear, but in nearly 22 years of grappling every injury I’ve had has been my fault or a weird accident. I’ve popped my knees because of improper mechanics and being stubborn. I’ve injured my shoulders because of being stubborn and falling improperly. I broke my hand because I ran it into someone’s knee. I’ve injured my ankles by being stubborn. Pride and stupidity are what make grappling dangerous not the activity. We all try to look out for each other, but the only control you have is if you are protecting yourself. Tap when you need to, fall properly, don’t be dumb.
