Most kids are not suited for grappling, because most adults are not suited for grappling. If you bring your kid to a jiu jitsu school and you've never grappled, leave them and their coaches alone. The coaches want your kids to succeed, they want them to like jiu jitsu, but they also know that it's not that fun sometimes. Adults have a choice; they get to decide after an eight-hour workday whether they want to go to practice (a lot of times they don't) kids don't have that option. Sometimes that means the coach sees a look on their face and says, "today is not the day to go hard". Respect that. Their brains are overwhelmed, this activity is hard on the body and their long-term career prospects probably shouldn't depend on professional grappling. When they get to 14,15 or 16 then you'll be able to focus them in towards something, but just let them be in class and pick up what they can until then.
