This isn’t something that is uniquely Jiu Jitsu, it’s happening in all sports and I would even say all activities to a certain extent. It’s becoming very difficult to do anything casually. From a very early age we have kids on traveling club sports teams, video games are something that people spend hours of their lives every day to be mediocre at, and competition Jiu Jitsu is more serious at a white belt level now than it was at a black belt level for many in the early 2000’s. A successful competitor now is focused in so many ways at an early level that weren’t even a thought to most people 10+ years ago and it starts from the beginning. What’s interesting is the chasm this is creating in tournaments that I don’t think they are aware of yet. Something to elaborate on further.
