Connection is a huge part of grappling, not just how you connect to other people, but how parts of your body work in tandem. We always have to think about the spatial relationships we are creating in order to have success. There’s connecting what our brain wants to do with what our body is doing. There’s connecting to someone for the sake of it versus connecting to someone effectively. Much of what we do boils down to connection and interaction between ourselves, our bodies, and other people. If you don’t know what your body is doing, how can you expect to impose your will on others? You then also must understand what they are trying to do to you and thwart those plans. This is not a mindless activity, you must connect your intention, attention, and physicality with whatever knowledge you have in order to be successful.
