I was asked how I train and get new information. The first part is I have been very lucky in terms of the base of knowledge I’ve been exposed to. From people with international recognition to the people I’ve trained with every day, I’ve somehow managed to surround myself with really intelligent Jiu Jitsu practitioners. The next part is grappling makes sense to me conceptually, even if I don’t do it, or can’t execute it, the concepts of grappling seem more intuitive than they are for others. That being said, I mostly acquire knowledge through watching elite competition footage and trial and error. There are a limited number of things that we can do within grappling, so I worry about those objectives and filter all new information through the information I already have to improve my Jiu Jitsu.
