Base is a foundational part of Jiu Jitsu. If you can’t make people fall over or stop yourself from falling over, you can’t do much. Let’s talk a little bit about that. You have five extremities that you will use to keep yourself upright, and if you want to topple someone else, you will focus on controlling those same extremities. Two arms, two legs, and your head, these are your standard sweep stoppers. When you combine proper weight distribution with control of the 5 base points, the balance of power 😬 shifts to you. Grappling is about progression, so bear in mind that sitting stoic in the same place is not a long-term solution. You must learn to dynamically maintain balance, weight distribution and base point control while moving. The better you understand how you and your opponent are able to stay upright and how to disrupt that dynamic the easier grappling becomes.
