Allowing the bottom player to use their legs makes your life hard. The bottom game of Jiu Jitsu is nearly useless without the guard and there is no guard without the involvement of the legs. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve told people not to willingly enter someone’s guard over a thousand times. You don’t have to engage in people’s guard, it’s not unsportsmanlike to not cooperate with someone else’s most effective attacking positions. Should you make it past the legs, don’t go back. Why make more work for yourself? It’s perfectly acceptable to limit your movement to rotations around the head. Stay away from people’s legs, simplify your life.
