There are only 5 armlocks, 3 that are legal at white belt, and 4 that are legal until brown belt. If you focus on what you are doing rather than how you are doing it, that should simplify your Jiu Jitsu. It is very difficult to grapple effectively if you don’t find commonalities between the positions you find yourself in. Hyper extension, compression locks, wrist locks, and attacking the shoulder all function the same way all the time. You can be on top, on bottom, or even standing and if you apply the correct immobilization and control principles you have an effective attack. Submissions are easy, we just over complicate things.
