No matter the reason you are training, you should always be seeking to improve your position and improve it quickly. Slow movement is for when you are in control of a situation. Escaping is something you should be looking to do at the first opportunity you get, the same can be said of sweeping or passing. All of these situations are dangerous in both a fighting and sporting context and staying in bad places for longer than necessary is antithetical to the goal of what we do. No time limit Vale Tudo and submission grappling has gone by the wayside and even if they hadn’t, you should not want to be constantly on defense. Being on defense wears you out faster and you still lose, that sounds terrible.
